Changing one's legal domicile to another state may offer tax and estate planning advantages, but comes with challenges that require careful planning. The law of domicile varies from state to state, with implications on many aspects of an individual's personal and business affairs. State laws also affect the ability of individuals and trustees to relocate trusts to new jurisdictions. The presentation will focus on what to consider when changing domicile and migrating trusts from New Jersey, New York and Connecticut to a tax-friendly jurisdiction such as Florida.
